Why and How Should You Declutter Your House

Declutter Your House

Going minimalist is the new mantra. We need to declutter to live a better life and stay healthy. And the process of decluttering starts right with out houses. We need to clean up our space, remove stuff we do not use or reuse some of the goods in ways other than used earlier. Decluttering not only saves ourselves precious space but also helps us cut down on our expenses. We begin to value money more and think twice before spending on any commodity.

We help you declutter your house. Simply follow the given steps:

  • Make decluttering a regular process: Make sure that you do given steps every six months. If you let junk sit in our houses for years and do the exercise after a year or two, it will serve little purpose.
  • Start by earmarking the spots in the house that attract junk: There sure must be spots in your bed room, kitchen or any other room that is hotbed of inviting junk. Stuff that has not been used for months sit there until you throw them out. Make a list of all such points and start by cleaning them up first.
  • Sift the materials: After you have collected the goods that you do not use anymore or have not used them in months, sift them. Divide them in three parts – the ones that you will throw away. The second would be the ones that you will donate and third the ones that you can reuse in some way like d-i-y projects et al.
  • Do not go the whole hog at one go: If you plan to take up the exercise of cleaning up the entire house in one day, you will fail. Instead give each of the room a day, clean up first the ones that requires most attention of them all.
  • Reorganize your drawer and wardrobes. Other than taking out the clothes that you no longer require or like to wear, you organize the remaining ones as neatly as possible. While organizing you may still stumble upon some that may end up in the discards list.
  • Do not buy storage baskets before you take upon the decluttering: This will lead to wasteful expenditure. Rather buy storage baskets whilst taking each room a day. That ways you will be able to plan and reorganize better and also cut down on your expenses.
  • How should you decide on the stuff to discard: Simple; think of the last time you had used it. In case the answer runs in years, there are very slim chances that you are going to use it again. Rather if you have not used any of the stuff for more than six months, it should make it to the discard list.
  • Do not hurry after you have sifted the stuff: Do not rush to throw the stuff that are meant to be discarded, right away. Think over it again; take your time and if you feel you should retrieve something out of the discard bin; do so.
